Whether he’s gone fishin’ or dominating ‘80s video games, this guy could match the masters step for step. Along with the fact that he has the whole time travel thing figured out, we’re pretty excited to see where this goes. Kick back and relax with our newest designer, Philip Roth.

1. Is there anything better than a perfect day casting a line?

Not really. It is absolutely the best feeling being on the lake in nature trying to find that next big school of fish. It’s my happy place for sure. The only thing that will make it better is when I can teach my daughter, Georgia, about it.

2. When did you first know you wanted to be a designer?

Not really sure I can nail down a moment. One day I wasn’t doing any design, the next I was all in, soaking up as much information as possible.

3. What’s the greatest ‘80s video game of all time?

I grew up a little differently than most with video games. While most kids had consoles and things like that, I had a dad who was very smart and worked with computers. By the time I was old enough to read, I was playing Doom on the LAN with my dad at home. I actually started playing games on the Commodore 64 that was in my room. I had to load them using the DOS prompts and everything. The first I remember was Track & Field. I wore out that keyboard playing that game.

4. Are you a dog, cat or Sasquatch kind of guy?

I would definitely say Sasquatch for sure. My favorite movie as a kid was “Harry and the Hendersons.” Although I can’t resist a big dog that I can wrestle with either.

5. What’s your favorite weird food?

I love frog legs…but only if I am getting the frogs myself, which means frog giggin’ then cleaning and frying them up myself in the cast iron over an open fire. Also, Spam is the best camping food on the planet.

6. Is there anything you still insist on doing the old-fashioned way?

Nope. I am not really old fashioned at all. I don’t fit in many stereotypes, and I really have my own way of doing things. If I can use technology while doing it, it makes things more fun.

7. What’s your number-one fishing tip for beginners?

If you want to catch fish in the summer, get an Arbogast Jitterbug and cast it into shady areas. If you don’t catch a fish on that lure, then there are no fish there.

8. If you could time travel only once, when and where would you go?

If I could time travel once, I would go back in time to right after I was born. But that is only because I would know who will win sporting events, and I could make a lot of money. Marty McFly was doing it all wrong. And if it were right after I was born, there would be two of me, so I wouldn’t risk changing the variables to make myself not exist.

9. What’s the worst movie you’ve ever seen?

“Rubber.” Need I say more?

10. What excites you most about working at Jajo?

The possibilities and opportunities for creativity are endless, honestly. The people here are amazing. The work is fun, and it is always something different. I can’t wait to see what’s next.
